Graduate Medical Education Residents & Fellows

Required enrollment for Graduate Medical Education residents and fellows in the following job codes: 9556, 9559, 9582, 9583, 9555, 9554, 9568, 9569 (see bottom of page for job code description).

Health Plan Highlights

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) provides the health plan network and claims administration services for your health plan. 

You will have a choice of one of two plans: Basic or Basic Plus.

You are required to enroll in one of the two plans for at least single coverage or provide documentation of other comparable health insurance to the Office of Student Health Benefits. If you have other health insurance, you must complete a waiver form (pdf) and provide a certificate of coverage from your health insurance provider. Approved waivers are valid for two years. 

The health plans do not have a pre-existing condition clause, meaning you and your eligible dependents will have coverage for any medical condition as soon as your coverage becomes effective.

The rates for health coverage for residents and fellows in job codes 9554, 9555, 9556, and 9559 are automatically deducted on a pre-tax basis.

The rates for health coverage for residents and fellows in job codes 9568, 9569, 9582, and 9583 are automatically deducted on a post-tax basis.

School of Dentistry Residents & Fellows

Required enrollment for School of Dentistry residents and fellows (job codes 9552 and 9553).

Billing

The cost of your health coverage is billed to your student account, and is divided up as follows:

  1. Your summer account will be billed for two months of coverage (July and August).
  2. Your fall account will be billed for five months of coverage (September through January).
  3. Your spring account will be billed for five months of coverage (February through June).
