Summer Coverage

If you're enrolled in the University-sponsored GAHP through the spring semester, you will automatically remain enrolled through the summer unless you complete and submit an Enrollment and Change Form (pdf) indicating you would like to cancel your plan.

Cancel Summer Coverage

Even if you graduate or your eligibility ends in May, your coverage will continue through the summer unless you submit a cancellation form to the Office of Student Health Benefits. The deadline to submit the form is May 31.

Cancellation forms received after the May 31 deadline will result in coverage terminating at the end of the month in which your completed form is received by our office.

International students, and their dependents, on a University of Minnesota-sponsored visa may cancel University coverage if they graduate, enroll in a US-based employer insurance or return to their home country for 90 days or more. In these instances, supporting documentation will be required to complete the cancellation.

Paying for Summer Coverage

If you have a fellowship, you are responsible for the entire summer premium, unless your department submits funding to pay for your summer coverage. Contact your department directly if you have questions about summer contributions.

If you have a graduate assistantship, you receive a contribution toward summer coverage based on the semesters in which you held an eligible assistantship.
