We know many of you have questions about COVID-19 and your health plan coverage through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross).
Please know that the situation is rapidly evolving and this page will be updated as new information becomes available.
Office of Student Health Benefits
In response to coronavirus (COVID-19), the Office of Student Health Benefits is closed for walk-in customer service effective March 30. However, our staff remain ready to timely assist you during our normal business hours through one of the following methods:

- Call 612-624-0627 and leave a voicemail that includes your student ID, general information about what you need help with, and a phone number or email address. Voicemails are retrieved frequently and our office will respond to you as soon as possible during business hours (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm and Thursday 9:00am - 4:30pm). Do not leave private information in your voicemail.

COVID-19 Services Coverage
If you believe you may have COVID-19 you should call your provider as they can determine if you need to be tested. To find a provider log in to your Blue Cross member portal at:
If you or a covered dependent have a COVID-19 related visit with a provider (office, urgent care, emergency department, Doctor on Demand telehealth visit) that results in an order for a COVID-19 test, it will be covered at no cost to you.
If you or a covered dependent have a COVID-19 related visit with a provider (office, urgent care, emergency department, Doctor on Demand telehealth visit) and a test is not available and the provider submits a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis code in accordance with CDC guidelines, it will be covered at no cost to you.
If you or a covered dependent require inpatient and/or outpatient treatment for COVID-19, when treatment follows evidence-based COVID-19 treatment guidelines, it will be covered at no cost to you. This benefit applies through 9/30/2020 and does not include experimental pharmaceuticals and medical treatments.
No cost for Doctor on Demand Telemedicine Services
Effective March 14, there will be a $0 copay for Doctor on Demand telemedicine services until June 14. Please note, you will need to pay your copay at the time of service and once your claim has been processed, Doctor on Demand will refund your copay. Telemedicine visits made outside of the Doctor on Demand site will be subject to the health plan's coinsurance.
Twin Cities Campus Student Health Benefit Plan Enrollees (updated 03/27/2020)
During your time away from campus we know that Boynton Pharmacy may not be the most convenient pharmacy for you. Because of this, we have enhanced your pharmacy benefit, effective 3/25/2020, so that you are able to purchase your covered prescription(s) at pharmacies in the Prime Therapeutics pharmacy network. You will still be responsible for your copay.
You will be sent a new medical ID card in the mail which will also contain your new pharmacy benefit information. Until your replacement ID card arrives you can use this sample pharmacy ID card along with your current medical ID card in order to purchase prescriptions at in-network non-Boynton pharmacies.
Prior to this, your pharmacy benefit only included Boynton Pharmacy.
The modification to allow prescription benefits through other pharmacies is currently expected to last through August 23, 2020.
If you are in Minnesota, Boynton Pharmacy likely remains your best and most convenient option for filling your prescriptions. Boynton Pharmacy has your existing prescription information already on file which saves you the hassle of having your prescription transferred to another pharmacy (and transferred again when you return to campus). Boynton Pharmacy’s prices are often lower than the $15/$25 copay tiers and their staff has the ability to work directly with the Office of Student Health Benefits to provide more flexibility for filling extended days supplies during this pandemic.
Additionally, Boynton Pharmacy is now providing curbside pickup to keep students safe and you will not even need to enter the clinic. Boynton Pharmacy can also mail prescriptions to your current location within Minnesota at no extra charge.

To locate additional participating pharmacies, either call Blue Cross Customer Service at 1-866-873-5943, or go to bluecrossmn.com/uofmn and either log in or register, using only the number portion of your ID # from your Blue Cross member ID card. Once logged in, click on “Prescriptions” on the top of the page, click on “Find a Pharmacy”. It will direct you to Prime Therapeutics home page. Click on “Find a Pharmacy” again and insert your ZIP code. You will be searching in the “Select” pharmacy network.
Change to Prescription Reimbursement
Please note that beginning April 1, our office will no longer offer reimbursement for prescriptions paid for out-of-pocket at non-Boynton pharmacies as previously communicated. This is because you are now able to pay your copay and pick up your prescription at any pharmacy in the Prime Therapeutics pharmacy network.
